Station To Station

Underground

Thumping like pulse points,
under the earth’s skin,
running dark and deep.

Our love escalated
down and out of control,
carrying our touches,
from station
to station
on the wildest new journey.

Moved by all our links,
so electrified,
by what we could be.

I knew your mind’s layout,
like I know the tube map,
yet my sense of you now
is delayed,
doesn’t come,
your promises get unmade.

Time grows heavier,
as waiting cements
our disjointed lives.

Yawning tunnels haunted
by trains’ alien screams,
angry, beeping doors shut
you in there,
me out here.
I doubt I'll find you waiting
at the next station.
