All Soul's Day

Last night
we laid a place at table
for the dead
and set your photograph next to it
and hoped that you knew

Today
I whispered prayers to your God
for the soul
that they tell me is now in peril
and hoped God listened

Tomorrow
I will learn how to exist
day by day
ignoring my hearts wish to join you
and hope that I live
