Pass The Parcel

Entry by: Jacula

25th December 2015
It's Christmas!
Time to rummage through the parcels,
brightly wrapped, and some are just for you.
So exercise those lazy metacarpals
as you scrabble in the sack -
Oh, whoopy-do!

Here's a jumper and some socks,
a pack of hankies and a hideous frock.
Something blue from Auntie Lou
and something red from Uncle Fred.
You've no idea what either is -
But, 'Thank you!'

You know you'll find both loot and crap,
but don't let that hold you back.
'Pass the parcel!' you gaily shout,
get that blooming present out -
Something good may come your way...
one day.

It's Christmas!
Time to rummage through the parcels,
same old charade each flipping ruddy year,
but as years pass and seats sit bare,
you're happy to see some relatives there.
'Merry Christmas!'

Just be thankful for what you've got
and don't have a care for what you have not.
Family and friends are all that matter,
driving you mad with their bickering and chatter.
Christmas comes but once a year
And you should be glad of those still here.

I know this poem's pretty shite,
but I did write it on Christmas night.
Give me some credit, I've had some wine
and I have tried to edit this ramble of mine.
Happy Christmas to you all!
I hope you are having a festive ball.
