Youth Of Today

WHAT YOU'VE BECOME TODAY
I'm a wave drawn in
by your actions, your edgy jokes
pounding a well-worn path
up each day's brand new beach,
those little gestures crystallise you,
always make my mouth dance.
So you have a shadow made
from everyone I ever knew
they lean over your lips as you talk.
Yes it’s the same old sky
but the clouds don’t bruise it
because you keep shining through,
the youth of today,
somehow untarnished
by what we've done to you.
All those times I said
these same words before
clutter up my heart,
like litter dropped deliberately,
but I know I’ve never
ever said I love you to
the being you’ve become today
or felt it the same way.
