The Earth Moves

Nothing is ever still.
Even asleep in our beds
we are perpetually moving -
eyelids flutter, limbs jerk,
without censure, liberated,
we say with our bodies, dreaming,
the words we cannot say awake.
As if our bodies know
stillness is an illusion
life is always change
moving forwards, towards
a forgone conclusion.
Like ants on a spinning top
we move as the earth moves
round and round on its axis
towards a last petit mort
which stills the breath
but doesn't stop the movement.
Even asleep in our beds

eyelids flutter, limbs jerk,
without censure, liberated,
we say with our bodies, dreaming,
the words we cannot say awake.
