From A Distance

Karla
From a distance,
she liked herself
loved even
at times.
Physically strong
though not beautiful
but pretty enough to be that bit more interesting than plain.
Attractive perhaps?
Yes attractive,
Dark hair
Full lips
and green eyes that hid much
but looked out imploringly
whenever they saw something
or someone
they wanted.
Colours loved her
She could wear anything
Reds, blues, greens, blues, yellows
black,
even pink and purple.
She sighed.
Suddenly annoyed
that life had to be lived close up
in your face.
for that was where she fell short:
relationships
demands
others always getting in the way.
But no matter
she snatched back her peace and her dreams
blissfully forgetting
that she was in a ten by six cell
for life.
She hadn't meant to kill him
Well maybe she had
But not quite so soon.
he'd been fun at first
they'd had a laugh
But once he'd seen through her
Once he knew her games
and her secrets
She was undone
Or he was
Bang bang.
Tossing back her hair
she knew there was no doubting it
From a distance she really was someone,
Someone special.
But close up?
Close up
she was just another inmate
Feared
and forgotten
by a world
she had never quite
fitted into.
From a distance,
she liked herself
loved even
at times.
