Rising
Day by day
Inch by slow inch
First a tiny shoot
Peeping out of the soil
Hails the sun for the first time

Lush green
So tiny
A new life grows
Up into the air
Leaves and stalk appearing
Reaching to take sustenance

I watch
Avidly
Tracking progress
Visiting each week
Noting changes each time
New pleasure from every part

She loved
All plant life
All budding things
All growing tendrils
All produce of the earth
Loved being out in nature

Now gone
She still lives
In all our hearts
Her zest for living
Reflected in this plant
Growing here from her ashes
