Shrivelled leaves long flattened, mouldering,
Traps for the unwary,
Dark clouds build
Layer upon layer,
Dragged to the invisible horizon,
Only emptiness beyond.

Slash-dazzled,
An intense slice of light,
A final, viseral thrust deep,
Deep, into blackened crevasse,
Icy, eons trapped,
Slowly melting, in blazing energy,
A last chance seized,
Clinging, unrelenting, no release.

Crying moans sink into silence,
Smothered,
Snow falls.
