Speed Of Light

They say nothing is faster
than the speed of light
but I can’t believe it moves
at all during daylight
when everything is safe and seen,
I don't see it fly.

It’s just there, isn’t it?
I think no more about it.
Yet you fragment it with tests,
your groping instruments
trying to pinpoint its speed
for what purpose?

It doesn’t matter to me
how quickly it reaches
somewhere I can’t imagine,
will never travel to,
or physically know.

It’s not how fast something moves
but how long before it’s gone
when will night prowl in?
How long before
light is slow enough
for dark to overtake it.
