The Peace Deal

In War
There is a moment of silence
louder than any explosion.
No one knows what to expect.
Each side wondering
when the other will attack,
or if they are reloading.
No one wants to look first.
In No Man’s Land,
the wounded are forgotten.
Time is their biggest enemy.
Their life is exiting
from the battlefield
no longer combatants.
In the muddy season,
troops gets bogged down,
no action for miles,
not even peace negotiations.
When the weather clears,
it begins all over again.
Time is the biggest enemy.
If nations dealt peace
as easily as a frontal assault,
with as much devotion,
there would never be time
for more wars.
A cautionary tale
is one no one listens to.
The silence between gunfire
is what they do listen to.
In between silence
a distant bird sings.
It sounds like a person in love.
