To Be Elected

To be elected is my goal;
To be a leader in your eyes,
To fight the battles of the free,
And to resist all compromise
Of my core values – even though
Challenged hard by burning twists
Of logic, minds, and hearts and fate.
I’d make a short, indelible list
And mark your name right at the top,
as he whose vote I always crave;
and try to make our paths align
without descending to deprave.

Parties centre, left and right
Would blaze and burn for all the night
If I were the chosen one, my love
We’d live forever hand in glove.
