About my Mother

I arrived in this life quite unexpectedly,
my mother was not exactly filled with glee.
I looked like my paternal grandmother it's true,
my mother was annoyed, - should I have looked more like you?
I nearly drowned as an infant, while sitting in my bath
my mother shook like a leaf, in that aftermath
She left me in my pram one day outside a shop,
she'd wandered out with the groceries and for me, forgot to stop
I dyed my hair red when I was still at high school,
she complained, why was I such a silly young fool
I lurched my way through one day after another
forever managing to displease my mother

But now I'm the care-giver, the roles are reversed,
it was difficult for my mother to accept this at first.
She's reviewing her life, and looking at things anew
there's quite a few events she has begun to review.
I have two gorgeous children, of which she does boast
I have four beautiful grandchildren, she loves them the most
She accepts that in this life, I've really done my best
And now I think - at last - my mother is impressed.

God Bless you Mum
